Heather Gordon Murphy - Choreography, Acting, Repertoire
Heather is an experienced dance and movement artist and has been involved in dance and theatre for over 40 years.... teaching dance for well over 25 years.
Having grown up in Campbell River, she has contributed her talents both on stage and off to many musicals and reviews including Shoreline Musical Theatre Society, River City Players and The Tidemark's Youth Theatre Program. Heather is a reknown choreographer. Her most recent international job was as assistant choreographer to the FIFA World Cup in Azerbijan. Heather is one of the few independant dancers ever to work and perform with Cirque du Soleil. Heather was also assistant choreographer for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
She has worked with many talented actors, singers, performers and athletes over the years. Heather's infectious enthusiasm motivates those around her to excel. She enjoys helping performance artists find new and innovative ways to explore their creativity. Heather has the ability to work with students of any experience level to help them produce quality dance and movement whether for exams, festivals or just for fun!
Kristy Miller - Voice, Musical Theatre, Repertoire
Kristy has been involved in music and theatre for over 35 years. Kristy studied Vocal Performance and Composition in Chicago IL and went on to Minneapolis MN where she studied arranging, Vocal Pedagogy, Theatre Production and Multicultural Music (Ethnomusicology).
Kristy is an avid singer and performer, a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and a BC Registered Music Teacher. She has been teaching private voice for over 18 years. One of her favorite genres is Musical theatre and Musical Review shows.
Kristy has been vocal coach, vocal director, staging director and choreographer for many youth musical productions over the years in Campbell River. She has worked with Shoreline Musical Theatre Society, River City Players, Tidemark Theatre's Youth Theatre Program, Timberline High School, Campbell River Baptist Church Youth Musicals and others. Kristy's energy and enthusiasm for musical theatre draws the best out of each of her students... Kristy's students excel at Musical Theatre winning awards and consistently placing in the top at festivals, competitions and in exams. "Musical Theatre is all about telling a story.... creating a moment in time. We can make our audience weep with sorrow or laugh with joy... what a huge motivation to tell our story well!"
Amy Lelliott - Voice, Musical Theatre
Performing is a very important part of Amy's musical career. She currently performs with her Classical Trio "Musicabile" and can also be seen performing vocals with the Campbell River "Little Big Band". Amy has worked with the Campbell River Children's choir developing a younger choir for the organization. Amy is our young children's specialist! Amy 's passion is her studio. Her students have excelled in vocal competitions, exams and festivals. The musical relationships she has had the opportunity to build with both her students and their parents will keep her teaching and performing in Campbell River for many years to come.
Amy has been involved in music and theatre for 25 years. Her first role was Anne in 'Anne of Green Gables' as a child. Amy is an exciting and dynamic vocal teacher who has been teaching in the Campbell River area for ten years. She began her music training as a child, then studied voice at the University of Sask. She completed her ARCT in Voice Performance with the Royal Conservatory of Canada, is a BC Registered Music Teacher and a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing
Rebecca Paulding - Voice, Elementary Education
Rebecca is our newest RainCoast teacher.
Rebecca holds a Bachelor and Masters of Music in Opera Performance from UBC and an ARCT in Piano Performance from RCM in Toronto. She also holds a Bachelor of Education, and is currently an elementary school music teacher here in Campbell River. Rebecca has sung with UBC Opera, Opera Nuova, Manitoba Opera, AEDO, the VSO, CSO, Musica Intima and the Gloria Dei Chorale. This past year, she was also a section leader with the Vancouver Bach Choir. Favourite roles include Rusalka in Rusulka, Musetta in La Boheme, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte and most recently Marian the Librarian in The Music Man (Highlands United Productions). Rebecca was also the soprano soloist for the Western Canadian premiere of Jubilate Deo with the Jubilate Vocal Ensemble. Rebecca has taught and coached many students across the Lower Mainland, Winnipeg and Vancouver, specializing in classical voice and musical theatre. She was also the Junior Voice Adjudicator at the Langley Kiwanis Music Festival. Rebecca loves encouraging, creating, exploring and singing with students of all ages!"
Michelle Draper - Piano, Music Theory, Accompaniment
Music has always been on the top of Michelle Draper’s “to-do” lists. She began taking piano lessons at the age of 5 and studied with Gwen Carnell, from age 9 through to completion of the Grade 10 Royal Conservatory of Music Piano, along with the co-requisites of History, Theory, and Harmony and Counterpoint courses. During Grade 12 she studied for the ARCT examination, studying pedagogy, history, harmony, counterpoint and piano with Jean Etheridge. Michelle is also an accomplished horn player studying trumpet, Euphonium, tuba, and finally, in her Gr 12 year, the French Horn.
She began teaching piano and theory at the age of 14, under the supervision of her first piano teacher. Michelle participated in several high school musicals, and went on to audition for the Uvic Education program, performing on French Horn, piano, and voice. Upon hearing her, Dick Ely immediately walked her to the Music school office and had her changed from Education to the Performance program on French Horn.
While studying French Horn, Michelle was sought after as a piano accompanist for many other students, including voice, oboe, flute, French Horn, trumpet, bassoon, and violin. Michelle graduated from Uvic in 1995 with the Bachelor of Music in Performance with Honours. Growing up in a church environment, Michelle had many opportunities for growth in teaching all age levels, performing as a solo vocalist, pianist, and accompanying vocalists, both solo, chamber and choir, and conducting choirs of all ages. Michelle most recently has been the accompanist for Cantiamo Chamber Choir in Comox Valley (2014-2019) and for the vocal students of Amy Lelliot and Kristy Miller. Michelle is a homeschool educator and she lives with her husband, Jason, and 7 of their 8 children.
Laura Mudge - Acting, Improv, Speech Arts
We are excited to welcome our newest teacher, Laura Mudge to RainCoast.
Laura Mudge has been involved in dance and theatre for over 15 years. Laura is head over heels in love with Improvisational theatre. Having produced and performed in countless shows over the years. Laura graduated with a major in Theatre and Media Arts in hamilton Ontario and studied with Tracey Erin Smith of Second City, Act Toronto as well as Barbizon Modelling and Acting. She has also worked with the youth of ‘Original Kids Theatre’ of London ON. While in LA Laura competed in the Improv competition I.M.T.A. where she placed 4th over all in her category in “Cold Read”, she also had the pleasure of studying with former casting director/acting coach to the stars Clair Sinnet.
Laura loves contributing to the arts community here in Campbell River area. Laura has worked with the Tidemark Theatre in many roles both on and off stage including performer, emcee, event coordinator, and play write. Currently she is one of the Tidemark’s technical staff working with sound design. Laura has coached Rhythmic Ribbon Dance and Theatre at Solstice Studio and leant her expertise to Rainbow Youth Theatre in the Comox Valley. She produces the annual Halloween IMPROV Howl which benefits local charities. Laura loves teaching and coaching adults and facilitates theatre and improv workshops for seniors and teens. Watch for upcoming new classes with Laura for the fall semester!
Beth Miller - Musical Theatre, Costume Design, Set Design, Stage Manager
Beth Miller has been on the stage for many years. Growing up in Campbell River, she was 12 when she began playing leads in Musicals. Whether it was an original show with Director Brian Down, numerous youth musicals with CR Baptist Church Youth Group, Timberline High School's 'Annie', 'Seussical', 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' or Shoreline Musical Theatre's 'Hello Dolly' or Musical Theatre Reviews, Beth's natural talent for both acting and singing energize the stage and her life. Beth has worked with well known local directors and performed in many local venues. She has received honours for both festivals and Musical Theatre exams. Beth is currently working on her musical theatre teaching credentials with Trinity College London.
Beth also has an amazing talent for costume and set design. She can take an idea and turn it into an artists rendering that is beautiful and creative. Beth has designed costumes for Rapunzel and Beauty and the Beast and has designed sets for 'Alice in Wonderland', 'Treasure Island', 'Rapunzel' and 'Beauty and the Beast'. Beth is also active as a theatre tech and can often be found back stage - Stage Managing - 'running the show'. Beth has often said she's not sure whether she is more comfortable back stage or on stage, but if you've seen her do either, you'll know she is great at both.
